Username generator that respects the character limit

No, and no tool that runs entirely in your browser can. Finding out whether a name is registered means asking Instagram, X, Reddit, Twitch or Mojang directly, and this page never sends a request anywhere — it generates names against the published rules and stops there. Sites that advertise live availability checking are either scraping signup forms, which breaks as soon as the form changes, or guessing from a public profile URL, which misses suspended, deactivated and reserved names. Copy three or four favourites and try them in the real form; that answer is the only one worth having.

X is the tightest at 15 characters, then Minecraft at 16, Reddit at 20, Twitch at 25 and Instagram at 30. Minimums matter too and catch people out more often: Reddit and Minecraft both want at least 3 characters, and Twitch and X want 4. The generator holds every candidate inside both ends of the range for whichever preset is selected, so a name it offers you will never be rejected for its length.

A space never, a period and a hyphen depending on where you are signing up. Instagram takes periods and underscores but not hyphens; Reddit takes underscores and hyphens but not periods; X, Twitch and Minecraft take underscores and nothing else. Nobody allows spaces, because a handle has to survive being written inside a URL and inside an @mention, and a space would end both early. Periods carry one extra risk worth knowing about: on a platform that allows them, an impersonator can register your name with a period dropped in the middle and look almost identical in a small font.

Because in most fonts they are the same shape, and a username gets read aloud, copied off a video and typed from memory far more often than it gets clicked. A viewer who hears your handle on a stream cannot tell a capital I from a lowercase l, and a friend reading it off a screenshot will guess wrong between 0 and O about half the time. Ticking the look-alike option removes all five characters from the pool and drops the digits to 2 through 9, which costs you roughly 40 per cent of the word list and buys you a name people can actually reach.

Possible, and more likely than the raw arithmetic suggests. The two-word style has 946,444 pairs before digits, which sounds enormous until you remember that everyone using an adjective-plus-noun generator is fishing in the same small pond of common English words — that is exactly why the good ones went years ago. The invented-syllable style is the one with real room: 27.2 million two-syllable combinations and 45.7 billion three-syllable ones, almost none of which is a word anybody has ever typed. Adding four digits multiplies whatever you started with by another 10,000.

It is the fastest way to date a name and to hand a stranger a piece of identity data. A handle ending in 1998 tells anyone who reads it roughly how old you are, which matters if you are a teenager on a public platform, and it will still be sitting there in ten years when the number has stopped being a fun fact. If you want digits, pick ones that mean nothing: the generator's random 2, 3 or 4 digits come from the browser's cryptographic random source, so they carry no information about you at all.

Almost never for logging in, sometimes for how it appears. X, Instagram, Reddit and Minecraft all treat the name as case-insensitive, so you cannot register RiverStone if riverstone exists, and typing either one reaches the same account. What capitals do change is legibility: RiverStone is read at a glance where riverstone is a puzzle, and Twitch keeps a separate display name precisely so you can capitalise the login you already have. Set the capitals menu to Capital On Each Part and the joiner to nothing if that is the look you want.
